Jonny Evans has officially retired from football and taken up a key development role at Manchester United, IsaGoal can report.
The 37-year-old, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford across two spells, will now serve as United’s new Head of Loans and Pathways.
Evans will work closely with Director of Football Jason Wilcox and the Academy Director to oversee the progression of young talents into the first team.
“I want to officially announce my retirement from my playing career, not with sadness, but with pride,” Evans told ManUtd.com.
“It’s been an honour to be on the pitch and feel your passion home and away; I will be eternally grateful for every ounce of support.”
“I’m excited to support the next generation, and help develop the pathway into the first team.”
Having experienced loans himself early in his career—including two pivotal spells at Sunderland—Evans is well-placed to guide United’s prospects through similar steps.
Evans made 241 appearances for United, winning the Champions League, three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and two League Cups.
He also lifted another FA Cup with Leicester City in 2021 and won 107 international caps for Northern Ireland, receiving an MBE in 2023.
Director Jason Wilcox welcomed the appointment, stating: “Jonny’s knowledge of what it takes to succeed at Manchester United will benefit each of our young players.”
Now armed with a UEFA A licence, Evans begins the next phase of his career—this time from the sidelines, nurturing the next batch of United greats.
