Luka Modric is set to join AC Milan from Real Madrid after the on-going Club World Cup.
AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed the news during an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, stating, “I spoke to him in person and saw a guy who is really eager to be competitive.”
The 39-year-old reportedly asked one key question before agreeing to the move: “Will we be a team built to win the championship?”
Tare emphasized the Croatian star’s value, saying, “He is important for what he will convey in terms of mentality, leadership and professionalism.”
Modric, a lifelong AC Milan fan, has agreed to a one-year contract worth $4 million per season, with an option for a second year.
Sources state that the midfielder will officially sign after Real Madrid wraps up their Club World Cup campaign.
Modric would leave Madrid with a record 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles, after nearly 600 games in white.
He scored 43 goals and assisted 95 times across all competitions, becoming one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
The midfielder’s move to Milan is expected to bring both experience and hunger to a squad eyeing the Serie A title.
