Liverpool’s first-team players have returned to pre-season training, just days after the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, IsaGoal can report,
Jota, 28, and Silva, 25, died in a car crash last Thursday in Spain, only 11 days after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso.
According to the Daily Mail, the pair were traveling to catch a ferry back to England when their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout and burst into flames.
The entire Liverpool squad, including manager Arne Slot, attended Jota’s funeral in Gondomar on Saturday.
Mohamed Salah, though absent from the funeral due to travel, penned a heartfelt message, saying, “It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.”
Photos from Tuesday showed several players arriving at the AXA Training Centre, including Salah, Andy Robertson, Conor Bradley, and Joe Gomez.
Robertson had earlier described Jota as “a good guy. The best. So genuine.”
Reports say the Lamborghini crashed on the A-52 motorway at high speed, with Spanish road safety expert Javier Lopez Delgado stating, “It seems very clear they were going very fast because of the skid marks.” He also raised concerns over road safety in the region.
Jota’s loss has left a void both on and off the pitch.
Liverpool’s upcoming friendly against Preston and pre-season tour in Asia remain scheduled but could be reviewed in light of recent events.
The Reds’ season opener is the Community Shield against Crystal Palace on August 10.
