Liverpool have reportedly agreed a six-year deal with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who is said to have snubbed interest from both Newcastle United and Manchester United in favour of a move to Anfield.

According to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the 23-year-old has made it clear that he “only wanted” to join Liverpool, forcing Newcastle to abandon their long-standing pursuit.

The Magpies had initially planned to deploy Ekitike alongside Alexander Isak, but the player’s preference to join Arne Slot’s side saw negotiations fall flat.

Liverpool had initially made an approach for Isak, ranked as one of the top strikers in world football, but were immediately rebuffed, with Newcastle demanding in excess of £150 million for the Swede.

Instead, Liverpool have pivoted to Ekitike, who is valued at €75m by Transfermarkt and widely compared to the likes of Thierry Henry and Isak due to his long strides, blistering pace, and finishing prowess.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward impressed in the Bundesliga and now appears poised to become a central figure at Anfield, particularly with Darwin Núñez reportedly heading for the exit after a disappointing league campaign.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Eintracht Frankfurt over the final transfer fee are ongoing, but personal terms are fully agreed.

Ekitike is expected to play either as a central striker or off the left, aligning with Liverpool’s evolving tactical system under new boss Arne Slot.
