Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick in Argentina’s 6-0 victory over Bolivia in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, marking his 10th international hat-trick.

Playing in front of a supportive home crowd at the monumental stadium, Messi scored his first goal in the 19th minute after capitalizing on a defensive error by Marcelo Suarez.

Despite some strong saves from Bolivia’s goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra, Argentina extended their lead just before halftime.

Messi assisted Lautaro Martinez and Julián Álvarez, contributing to a 3-0 scoreline.

In the second half, while Nicolás Otamendi had a goal disallowed for offside, substitute Thiago Almada added a fourth goal in the 70th minute.

Messi then scored his second after skillfully evading two defenders.

He completed his hat-trick just two minutes later, matching Cristiano Ronaldo for the most international hat-tricks in men’s football with 10 and raising his tally to 112 goals for Argentina.

Argentina currently lead the standings with 22 points, bouncing back strongly from previous setbacks.

Messi expressed his gratitude for the affection from fans, saying, “It’s really nice to come here… it moves me how they shout my name.”
