According to a report from Punch Sports Extra, Leicester City has identified RB Salzburg’s Lucas Gourna-Douath as the ideal replacement for Wilfred Ndidi. The Nigerian midfielder’s contract with the club is set to expire in the summer, and he is one of six players at the King Power Stadium not expected to renew their contracts.
Gourna-Douath, a 20-year-old midfielder, is valued at over €20m by Salzburg. He would be interested in a move to England if Leicester City secures promotion to the Premier League. The French website, jeunesfooteux.com, states that Gourna-Douath is intrigued by the opportunity to progress with Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Ndidi is attracting interest from various European clubs, including Juventus, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, Wolves, and Tottenham Hotspur. Since joining Leicester City from Belgian club Genk in 2017, Ndidi has made 269 appearances across all competitions.
In the current season, he has scored four goals and provided six assists in 32 matches. Leicester City, currently in second position in the Championship table with 88 points from 42 games, is preparing for a potential transition without Ndidi.
The club’s manager, Enzo Maresca, and his coaching team are actively seeking a replacement to ensure a smooth transition. Ndidi’s anticipated 270th appearance for the Foxes will be against West Brom at the King Power Stadium in an English Championship fixture on Saturday.
Leicester City is just one point adrift of leaders Ipswich Town, who have played a game more.
