Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed surprise at the news that Roberto Firmino will be leaving Anfield when his contract expires in June.

As Firmino exits after an eight-year stay, Klopp expressed respect for the Brazil forward’s decision.

The star striker scored seven goals in 13 Premier League games initally, but was sidelined due to a calf injury before returning in the Everton derby and subsequently made five substitute appearances.

His last goal of 108 during 354 Reds appearances came off the bench with the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United.

The Anfield faithful are preparing for an emotional sendoff for Firmino on 20 May as they celebrate his successes when earning Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Club World Cup accolades during his tenure.

“Whenever he will come back, everybody knows that the song will still be for a long time in everybody’s ears,” said Klopp fondly.
