Antony has emotionally opened up about his most difficult days at Manchester United, admitting he went days without eating and nearly lost his desire to play football.

The Brazilian winger, now thriving on loan at Real Betis, shared his experience ahead of the UEFA Europa Conference League final against Chelsea. His comments came during a media interview, according to TNT Sports Brazil.

“Only I know what it was like to be there at home, not having the strength to even play with my son, going days without eating, staying locked in my room,” Antony said.

Struggles at Manchester United

Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax for £82 million, reuniting with Erik ten Hag. Despite the high expectations, he struggled to adapt both on and off the pitch. He featured in 14 matches this season under both Ten Hag and new manager Ruben Amorim but failed to find consistent form.

The stress affected his personal life to the point where he began losing touch with his passion for the game.

“I wanted to do things, but they didn’t seem to work out because I wasn’t happy… I didn’t feel that desire to play football,” Antony admitted.

A New Beginning at Real Betis

His loan move to Real Betis has sparked a dramatic turnaround. The 24-year-old has rediscovered joy in football and has become a key player in Betis’ journey to the Europa Conference League final in Wroclaw.

Antony has contributed nine goals and five assists this season. His performances have attracted interest from other top clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Juventus. Manchester United are now prepared to sell him this summer, with a price tag reportedly between £30 million and £35 million.

Betis are eager to make the move permanent but will face tough competition.

Emotional Recovery and Support

Antony credits his family—and his faith—for helping him through his darkest moments.

“[My brother] told me to hold on a little longer, that things were going to change… They were very hard days for me,” he said while fighting back tears.

Now focused and enjoying his football again, Antony’s revival in Spain has become one of the standout stories of the season.
