The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has addressed the widespread criticism over the Super Falcons’ outdated training kits at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Isagoal can report,
In an interview, Gusau said Nike had shipped the new kits to Morocco ahead of the tournament, but they got held up at Moroccan customs in Casablanca.
“It’s good that you’re asking this,” Gusau said. “Nike did their part. The kits are in Casablanca, stuck with customs. DHL tried, but couldn’t get them to the players’ hotel.”
Gusau shared the invoice from DHL and confirmed that he had visited Moroccan FA officials in Rabat to fast-track the release.
“The kits were supposed to arrive before the tournament started,” he added. “They came two days after our opening match. It’s a logistics problem and it delayed everything.”
He also explained that specific kit sizes for players required custom orders, causing further delays in dispatch.
“Some Nike officials will be here Sunday to observe and fix these kinds of issues,” Gusau said.
Despite this, Nigeria’s Super Falcons have advanced to the quarterfinals with back-to-back wins.
