Jordon Ibe is close to sealing a comeback to professional football after agreeing terms with Umeå FC in Sweden’s second division — www.isagoal.com reports.
The club, as confirmed in an official post on its website, noted the 29-year-old completed a trial that started nearly three weeks ago.
His next step depends on approval from the Swedish Migration Board, who received his work permit application on July 16, according to Umeå’s statement.
While waiting on that decision, the former Liverpool winger continues to train with the Superettan side.
Ibe burst into England’s top flight at just 17, debuting for Liverpool with high expectations surrounding his potential.
Across his time with Liverpool and Bournemouth, he featured in 119 Premier League games, scoring four and assisting ten.
Earlier in his career, he also spent loan periods at Derby County and Birmingham City, sharpening his game at the Championship level.
His journey later included moves to Turkey’s Adanaspor and several English non-league teams, such as Ebbsfleet United and Hungerford Town.
In 2015, then-Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh tried to convince him to switch international allegiance, but Ibe chose to pursue a future with England.
He has previously worn the England shirt at U18, U19, U20, and U21 levels.
If cleared, Umeå FC could become a new chapter for Ibe — a player once seen as Liverpool’s next big thing.
