Forest Coach Reveals Awoniyi’s Purpose in Betis Journey Despite Ban

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi traveled to Seville despite being ineligible, as manager Ange Postecoglou explained the hidden reasons behind it

Taiwo Awoniyi may not have been cleared to play in Nottingham Forest’s Europa League clash with Real Betis, but he was still on the flight to Seville with his teammates – www.isagoal.com reports.

Speaking during Friday’s press briefing, Forest boss Ange Postecoglou told BBC Sport that Awoniyi, Omari Hutchinson, and Jair Cunha were all part of the trip because the club wants every player to feel fully connected to the group.

The Nigerian striker has been through a turbulent spell at the City Ground, having been told in the summer that he could move on, only for no deal to be finalized.

That left him outside the main picture until Ola Aina’s serious injury opened a spot in Forest’s Premier League squad list.

Even with that inclusion, Awoniyi has yet to feature this season, though he appeared on the bench against Brentford and Swansea City earlier in the campaign.

Postecoglou stressed that traveling for a big European fixture has value beyond minutes on the pitch, saying: “Bringing players along allows them to share in the experience, to build bonds, and to grow together as a unit.”

For Awoniyi, the Seville trip was more about team chemistry than game time.
