Liverpool are pushing hard to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, who reportedly wants to take Alexis Mac Allister’s number 10 shirt at Anfield, according to reports from TEAMtalk.
Liverpool’s interest in Wirtz comes as the club looks to strengthen their squad after winning the Premier League under manager Arne Slot. The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong and are targeting more reinforcements, but Wirtz’s potential transfer stands out as their biggest move this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The 22-year-old German playmaker is highly rated across Europe. He has already turned down Bayern Munich and is said to be settling in Liverpool. Wirtz’s ambition to wear the number 10 jersey currently held by World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has created intrigue around the deal.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg shared on X: “Florian #Wirtz would like to wear the number 10 shirt at Liverpool FC. He currently wears it at Leverkusen as well and the number 17 shirt for Germany. At the Reds, Alexis Mac Allister currently wears the number 10.”
Liverpool has reportedly offered around £109 million for Wirtz. However, Bayer Leverkusen has valued him at up to €150 million and are exploring including Liverpool players in the deal.
Niclas Fullkrug, Wirtz’s teammate on the Germany national team, described him as “simply an outstanding player with special qualities,” praising his versatility and dangerous skill on the ball. Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich also expressed his hope that Wirtz’s choice will be the right one, saying, “As a Bayern player, I would have naturally wanted him to come to us.”
Liverpool face competition from Bayern Munich but appear determined to conclude the transfer quickly. The deal’s success would mark a major signing for the club ahead of the next Premier League campaign.
