Liverpool are close to finalising a major transfer move for Florian Wirtz, with a deal potentially completed as early as next week.
According to Sky Sport Germany, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the midfielder has informed Bayern Munich of his intention to join the Premier League champions. The Reds are currently negotiating a transfer fee of around €150 million (£125m) and have proposed a long-term contract worth €20 million (£16m) per season.
Wirtz, 21, was one of the standout performers in European football this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions. His form played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga title run under Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool’s move for Wirtz signals further reinforcement of their midfield, with the club also working on deals for Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Frimpong is viewed as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Kerkez may provide depth on the left side of defence.
New manager Arne Slot is expected to make Wirtz a central figure in his plans, with the German international offering versatility and creativity in multiple midfield roles.
“Wirtz has informed Bayern Munich about his decision to join the Premier League champions,” Tavolieri reported.
If the deal is completed, Wirtz will become one of the most expensive signings in Liverpool’s history and a key addition ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
