Liverpool has reached a full agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of German midfielder Florian Wirtz, in a deal that could reportedly set a new British record. The Reds will pay a guaranteed $135.5 million, with an additional $21.7 million possible through add-ons.

According to Liverpool Echo, Wirtz is expected to sign a long-term contract and will follow Jeremie Frimpong, his former Leverkusen teammate, as Liverpool’s second summer addition. Fans are now eager to see which shirt number Wirtz will wear at Anfield.

Wirtz currently wears No. 10 for Leverkusen and the German national team, but that jersey belongs to Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool. The No. 17, which he has also worn, is occupied by Curtis Jones. Reports had suggested Wirtz wanted the No. 10, but the midfielder firmly dismissed the claims, stating, “That was never true. I respect every player and their number.”

Liverpool’s available shirt numbers under 20 include 6, 12, 13, 15, and 16. Higher numbers such as 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, and 29 are also open. Additionally, the No. 66 jersey, previously worn by Trent Alexander-Arnold before his move to Real Madrid, is now vacant.

Liverpool supporters are looking forward to the official unveiling of Wirtz and the number he will choose as he prepares for his Premier League journey.
