Chelsea have upped their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez, and the player’s decision on whether to leave Camp Nou is expected very soon — www.isagoal.com reports.
The 22-year-old has attracted strong interest from the Premier League, with Sport confirming that Chelsea have raised their offer to around €65 million after initially being linked with a €58 million bid.
Reports suggest Barcelona value Lopez at €70 million, but the club would not resist a departure if it helps ease salary cap concerns hanging over the squad.
Sources close to the Blaugrana board view his potential sale as a financial lifeline, with some insiders pushing for an agreement that could balance their books quickly.
However, Guillem Balague insists Chelsea have not yet placed an official bid and will only do so once the midfielder himself signals he is open to moving.
In the meantime, Lopez cancelled a scheduled appearance with The Residency, where he was due to interact with fans, to avoid questions about his uncertain future.
“Chelsea will wait for encouragement before making an offer,” noted journalist Alex Pintanel, who also revealed Lopez’s inner circle prefers he stays at Barcelona.
Despite pressure from England, the Spanish talent has not rushed his decision, and Barcelona are preparing to continue with their current squad setup if he chooses to remain.
