The 2024 edition of FASCO CUP has been nothing short of exciting football festivity for over a month and half, with grassroots football at it’s best in Ipaja-Ayobo and it’s environs.
It’s rather sad that whatsoever has a beginning must surely has an end, as such the most renowned grassroots football competition in Alimosho is finally coming to a close.
Zico FC and Dei Gratia will lock-horns in the final, having defeated their respective Lagos opponents in the semi-final stage to give the fans an all Ogun state derby for the second time in three years.
Interestingly in 2022, Zico FC played against Meteorite FC in an all Ogun state derby, losing to the then coach Eric’s side on penalties after a goal-less affair.
Zico FC, as they look forward to the final, will hope lightning doesn’t strike twice having improved immensely from what we saw two years ago with the addition of some quality players in the team.
While Zico FC are the bookmakers odd favorite to pick up the title, however, if talisman Messi, their solid defensive line-up and the goalkeeping wall Olaoluwa failed to bring their hey-game to fore they might be surprised by their opponent Dei Gratia.
However, Dei Gratia having shown tenacity and team cohesion from the start of the tournament to the final against all odds, epitomizes the extent in which team-work and solid cohesion has helped them gotten this far.
The interesting code about Dei Gratia is how consistent they’ve been able to keep up their defensive shape, while they wait patiently for opponent to open up is so brilliant and could be a plus for them going into the final.
Plenty of exciting events await football enthusiasts of Ipaja-Ayobo community, because the grand-finale of FASCO CUP is known for it’s funfair and this year’s final won’t be an exception.
The team of organizers led by Oyetunji Sulaimon, known as ‘Racelux‘ and Olugbenga Aluko ‘Viduka‘, have once again delivered with the success of the 2024 FASCO CUP.
All roads now leads to Idowu Fadeyi Ayobo playing ground for the final, with the fans set to witness yet another epic derby for the ages which promises to be fun.
As we look forward to the final, the third place play-off between the two loosing semi-finalist from Lagos MS Success and TIG Dragon will first take place by 12pm on Sunday.
This competition over the years has been announcing Ipaja-Ayobo and ultimately Alimosho, to the world with the emergence of special talents annually.
So with this year’s edition set to come to a close on Sunday having recorded massive success, it can be said that subsequent editions will continuously gets better as one of the best grassroots football competition in Nigeria.
