Faustino Anjorin is set for a €5 million move to Torino after just one season with Empoli, IsaGoal can report.
Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi confirmed that the former Chelsea midfielder will join Torino, with the transfer expected to be completed this week.
Anjorin, 23, had a solid debut Serie A campaign with Empoli, scoring twice and registering three assists in 22 appearances.
Despite Empoli’s relegation to Serie B, Anjorin’s performances caught the attention of several Serie A clubs.
Speaking to Lady Radio (via Tuttob), Corsi said, “If he plays 30-35 games, he’s at Ederson’s level. But injuries limited him to 22. Keeping him unhappy in Serie B? He’ll go to Torino.”
Torino acted quickly to seal the deal, beating interest from Atalanta and Fiorentina.
Medical tests and contract formalities are scheduled, with the final announcement expected on Friday.
Chelsea, who allowed Anjorin to leave for free last summer, will earn €2 million from the deal due to a 40% sell-on clause in his Empoli contract.
Anjorin rose through Chelsea’s youth ranks, making his senior debut under Frank Lampard in 2019 before going on loan to Lokomotiv Moscow, Huddersfield, and Portsmouth.
Now, his revival in Italy has drawn interest from Nigeria coach Eric Chelle, who has held talks with Anjorin over a potential switch in international allegiance.
Though capped at youth level for England, Anjorin remains eligible for Nigeria and could be included in Chelle’s squad ahead of the upcoming AFCON.
