Kaizer Chiefs are pushing to land Etiosa Ighodaro, but the deal’s in limbo as Mamelodi Sundowns still hold the keys despite his contract appearing to expire — www.isagoal.com reports.
According to Goal, Chiefs had hoped to seal a free move for the Nigerian forward before finding out Sundowns quietly inserted a one-year extension clause into his deal.
The 24-year-old isn’t new to the league, having scored 25 goals across spells with AmaZulu, Chippa United, and SuperSport United.
Ighodaro had been preparing to make a permanent move after three straight loan spells, but negotiations have hit a pause while the contract situation gets untangled.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi didn’t hide his interest either.
“Ighodaro’s a talented striker, no doubt,” said Nabi at the league launch. “But he’s still under contract elsewhere, and there are details to work out.”
He added, “If we sign him, great. If not, we have other names ready.”
Chiefs remain interested but won’t make a move until the paperwork is cleared.
With the new season around the corner, the clock is ticking—Amakhosi want firepower up front, and Ighodaro fits the bill perfectly.
