Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a five-year contract, with an option for an additional year. The Premier League club finalised the transfer on June 1 after activating a £62.5 million release clause.

According to AFP, Cunha expressed his deep excitement about joining United. He said, “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.”

The 26-year-old striker became the first signing under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who is beginning to rebuild the squad after a disappointing season and Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

Cunha recently played a key role for Brazil, providing the assist that secured a 1-0 victory over Paraguay, helping the national team qualify for the World Cup finals.

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, described Cunha as an important addition who will help strengthen the team for the challenges ahead.
