Chelsea Target Donnarumma After Maignan Talks Collapse

Chelsea are eyeing PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma after talks for Mike Maignan collapsed. The Blues may break the bank for the Yashin Trophy favourite this summer

Chelsea are reportedly preparing to make a bold move for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after their pursuit of Milan’s Mike Maignan collapsed.

According to L’Équipe, the Blues are tracking the Italian star closely, with a potential deal likely to be explored after the Club World Cup final on Sunday, where Chelsea will face Donnarumma’s PSG.

The 26-year-old has kept five clean sheets during the tournament and is enjoying a stellar 2024–25 campaign, having registered 12 clean sheets as part of a treble-winning PSG side.

Despite Donnarumma’s strong public commitment to remain in Paris—“My priority is to stay at PSG and sign a new deal,” he said last month—interest from top clubs, including Chelsea, remains high.

His current contract runs until 2026, and although PSG have not stated a price tag, the Blues may need to surpass their own record £71.6m fee paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga to secure his signature.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation remains fluid.

The club currently have four keepers on their books—Robert Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic, Filip Jorgensen, and youngster Mike Penders—but none have firmly established themselves as a long-term No. 1.

Following the failed Maignan talks, internal confidence in Petrovic and Sanchez remains, but Donnarumma would represent a massive upgrade.
