John Obi Mikel has advised Nicolas Jackson to remain at Chelsea and fight for his place instead of considering an exit – www.isagoal.com reports.
The ex-Chelsea midfielder acknowledged that Jackson’s time at Stamford Bridge has been full of ups and downs since joining from Villarreal in 2023.
According to Soccernet.ng, the Senegalese striker has delivered 30 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances but continues to divide opinion among fans.
Some Chelsea supporters are convinced the forward can mature into a top-level striker, while others feel he has already had enough chances.
Mikel, speaking on the Obi One Podcast, praised Chelsea’s transfer dealings this summer, especially the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
“Listen, I think we’ve done really good business this window, both with signings and with the players sold,” the Olympic bronze medalist said.
The Nigerian icon pointed out that Chelsea recouped over $200m in sales but admitted Levi Colwill’s injury means more defensive cover is needed.
With Delap and Pedro pushing into the attack, Jackson has seen his minutes reduced under Enzo Maresca.
Mikel stressed that this is exactly the type of healthy competition the team requires to grow and win trophies.
“I’m hearing Nicolas Jackson wants to leave. I hope he stays, because I still think he has a massive part to play this season,” Mikel added.
Chelsea recently placed a transfer price tag on Jackson as interest in the striker begins to emerge.
His last appearance came in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final against Flamengo, a game that further fueled questions about his future.
The former Super Eagles captain, however, believes Jackson’s talent and qualities are too valuable to let go just yet.
