Chelsea are reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.

The Blues have been on the lookout for a shot-stopper to align with Enzo Maresca’s new system, as there are concerns over Djordje Petrovic’s suitability for the role.

Robert Sanchez has been promoted back to Chelsea’s starter, but Jorgensen emerged as a serious target earlier this week, with negotiations progressing.

Chelsea and Villarreal are in discussions over a transfer fee ranging between £17m and £21m for the 22-year-old.

Despite interest from Marseille, Chelsea appears to be leading the race for Jorgensen’s signature having already agreed personal terms with the player.

After the 2-2 draw with Wrexham, Manager Enzo Maresca did not rule out the possibility of acquiring a replacement.

Maresca said after the match, “The goalkeeper is very, very important – one of the main positions.” He expressed satisfaction with Sanchez but remained open about potential transfers, stating, “When the transfer window is open, anything can happen for us and for the rest.”
