Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has recently addressed the controversy surrounding his teammate Vinicius Jr.’s comments on racism in Spain.
Carvajal acknowledged the difficulties faced by Vinicius Jr. but took a firm stance in defense of his country. “There is no doubt that Spain is not a racist country,” Carvajal stated.
According to Carvajal, his own upbringing in Leganés, a town where he lived alongside people from many different nationalities, serves as proof that Spain embraces diversity.
He emphasized that his personal experience growing up in such a multicultural environment shows that Spain can and does welcome people of all backgrounds.
Carvajal was also clear in his condemnation of racism in football, stressing the importance of eliminating discriminatory behavior from stadiums. “We are totally against any form of racism in sporting events,” he added.
He mentioned ongoing efforts in La Liga to crack down on hooligans and implement stronger measures to prevent them from returning to stadiums.
However, Carvajal was adamant that the actions of a few individuals should not tarnish Spain’s reputation or its ability to host major events like the World Cup.
The 32-year-old also expressed excitement at the prospect of captaining the Spanish national team, calling it a “dream come true.”
He then touched on the Ballon d’Or, expressing pride in being considered for the award, though admitting that defenders are often overlooked in favor of goal scorers.
Carvajal expressed gratitude to coach Luis de la Fuente for nominating him and fellow player Rodri, noting that even being in the conversation for the prestigious award is an honor.
