The family of late Super Eagles great Peter Rufai, popularly called Dodo Mayana, has confirmed the full programme for his funeral rites — www.isagoal.com reports.
According to Vanguard, the announcement was made public through a statement signed by Sunny Bruce Rufai on behalf of the family.
The ceremonies will begin on Thursday, August 21, with a service of songs and the official unveiling of his biography at Amuwo Odofin in Lagos.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, August 22, at the Catholic Church of Visitation in Festac Town, starting at 10 a.m.
His body will be laid to rest the same day at Ikoyi Cemetery immediately after the church service.
The three-day programme will conclude on Sunday, August 24, with a special Thanksgiving service at the same parish.
Rufai, who passed away on July 3 at age 61 after an illness, was Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.
He also played in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning silver in 1984 and 1988 before lifting the AFCON trophy with Nigeria in 1994.
Rufai’s international career stretched from 1981 to 1997, during which he earned legendary status for his performances.
Beyond the national team, he played professionally in Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain.
After retirement, he remained close to the game, mentoring upcoming goalkeepers and briefly working with Nigeria’s U23 team.
