Former Nigeria striker Brown Ideye has delivered a strong message to current Super Eagles stars about preparing for life after football – www.isagoal.com reports.
The ex-West Brom forward specifically mentioned players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface as examples of those who must start planning now.
Ideye, who won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, explained that many ex-footballers struggle financially because they fail to make early decisions about savings and investments.
“Footballers, start saving for your future from day one. No matter how small your salary is, put something aside for your retirement,” he wrote on social media.
The former Olympiacos and Dynamo Kyiv striker added that financial discipline is not enough without having the right people around.
“And pray for God to bring the right people around you. Most importantly, pray for the right partner who will always be there for you even after your career,” Ideye said.
His advice comes as concerns grow over how Nigeria treats its football veterans, especially after the recent passing of ex-goalkeeper Peter Rufai.
Ideye believes today’s stars must avoid the mistakes that left many legends struggling after retirement.
