Bayern Munich is reportedly seeking €50 million (£42 million) from Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt, as United intensify their search for a new centre-back after Raphael Varane’s departure.
United’s initial £45 million offer for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite was rebuffed, with Everton holding out for over £70 million.
Reports indicate that Matthijs de Ligt has emerged as an alternative option for United, prompting internal discussions at the club about a potential move for the Dutch international.
De Ligt previously played under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, which adds to the appeal of a potential reunion.
De Ligt, 24, joined Bayern Munich for €77 million (£65.6 million) from Juventus in July 2022 but has faced a season marred by injuries, limiting his Bundesliga appearances to just 16 starts.
Despite this, Bayern is reportedly open to selling him this summer if their valuation is met.
Currently focused on Euro 2024 preparations with the Netherlands national team, De Ligt remained non-committal about his future when questioned recently.
He emphasized that his immediate priority is the Euros and declined to speculate on transfer matters until after the tournament.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are preparing to partake in Euro 2024 Group D matches against Poland, France, and Austria under Ronald Koeman’s management.
De Ligt’s statement reflects his contentment at Bayern but leaves his future open-ended beyond the ongoing international commitments.
