Barcelona have officially signed Joan Garcia from RCD Espanyol after activating his €25 million release clause.
According to FC Barcelona, Garcia has agreed to a six-year contract that runs until June 2031.
“FC Barcelona has activated the termination clause of player Joan Garcia. The cost of the clause was €25 million plus CPI,” the club confirmed in an official statement.
Garcia will put pen to paper on Friday during a private signing at the club’s offices.
Earlier this week, the Spanish goalkeeper announced his departure from Espanyol. Just hours later, Barcelona made the transfer official.
Garcia’s performances last season stood out as he played a key role in helping Espanyol avoid relegation. His form earned him recognition as one of the strongest goalkeepers in La Liga.
Barcelona moved quickly to complete the deal, securing the 24-year-old at what they considered a good price.
The transfer makes Garcia Barcelona’s first signing of the summer, bringing him in from their city rivals.
The payment for his release clause was submitted through his representatives last Friday.
Barcelona waited for the necessary paperwork to be finalized before La Liga approved the move.
Garcia is expected to challenge for the starting spot at Barcelona, especially as Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future with the club remains uncertain.
