FC Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a replacement for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Despite announcing his retirement earlier this summer after leaving Juventus, the 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper is now being courted by Barça, with fellow Pole and current La Liga top scorer Robert Lewandowski helping to persuade him.
Initial discussions have already taken place between Barcelona and Szczesny’s camp, and the former shot-stopper is said to be open to the idea of coming out of retirement.
However, he has laid out two conditions for agreeing to the move.
First, Szczesny wants to be guaranteed a starting spot and does not wish to serve as a backup.
Second, he is only willing to sign a one-year contract, as his family had planned to settle into retirement in Marbella, Spain, and prefers a short-term deal.
Szczesny’s financial demands are reportedly not a hurdle, with his focus more on the contract length and playing time.
Should the deal fall through, Barcelona are said to be considering other options, including former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
