Atletico Madrid have struck a €50m agreement with Villarreal for Alex Baena, IsaGoal can report, making him their third headline summer signing after Matteo Ruggeri and Johnny Cardoso.
Spanish outlet Marca revealed the deal, while transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Baena will cost €45m plus €5m in add-ons, bringing Atletico’s confirmed spend to over €93m in fixed fees alone.
The 23-year-old midfielder is set to bolster Diego Simeone’s squad after giving his full approval to the move weeks ago.
Talks dragged on over the payment structure, but both clubs and Baena have now agreed on the terms.
Villarreal quietly admitted Baena’s departure late Wednesday, expressing confidence in Simeone’s ability to unlock his full potential.
