Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made a striking comparison between Bukayo Saka and Lionel Messi following the Gunners’ impressive win over Wolves.
Saka provided a goal and an assist to kick-off another campaign with high hopes for the North London side in their quest for the title.
The 22-year-old winger delivered a teasing cross for Kai Havertz to convert in the first half.
Later, Havertz returned the favor with an assist that allowed Saka to cut in and beat Wolves’ keeper Jose Sa.
Mikel Arteta likened Saka’s ability to Messi’s, stating, “With good players it’s like that, With Messi, you know he’s going to come here and put the ball there, but he does it all the time. You can’t stop him. That’s the quality of players like Saka.”
Kai Havertz was equally complimentary of his teammate, acknowledging Saka’s exceptional talent while suggesting there’s still room for improvement. “Saka is unbelievable. There are not a lot of players like him on the planet and he is still so young. He can get better.”
Arteta also lauded the commitment of Saka and other key players like David Raya and Declan Rice, who all returned to the squad after their involvement in Euro 2024 “That was their mentality straight away after the last game. They wanted to come back and be ready for the first game. This is the mentality that we need,” said the Spaniard.
