Arsenal launch €75m Gyökeres bid amid Chelsea threat

Arsenal have reportedly taken a major step in their pursuit of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, submitting an official €75 million bid to Sporting CP as they aim to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season.

According to Correio da Manhã, the north London club has already reached a personal agreement with Gyökeres, who is enjoying another prolific campaign with 52 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances. The 26-year-old also scored 43 goals last season, making him one of Europe’s most productive forwards.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas reportedly sees Arsenal’s bid as an initial offer, with hopes of securing a fee closer to the €100 million release clause in the striker’s contract. Arsenal may look to sweeten the deal with bonuses, some tied to challenging objectives such as winning the Ballon d’Or.

The urgency on Arsenal’s side stems from fears that Premier League rivals Chelsea could step in and activate the full clause without negotiation.

As one report put it, “Arsenal have now submitted their first official offer to sign Gyökeres.”

With Champions League ambitions and domestic goals still just out of reach, Arsenal appear determined to land a striker capable of pushing them to the next level.
