Arsenal are on the verge of sealing a move for Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, who is currently in London to finalize his switch to the Emirates, IsaGoal can report.
Mosquera, 21, refused to extend his contract with Los Che, which expires in 2025, forcing the Spanish side to cash in before losing him for free.
Marca reports that Real Madrid were planning to sign Mosquera on a free next summer, a development that may have accelerated Arsenal’s pursuit.
The Gunners and Valencia have reportedly agreed a €15m deal with up to €5m in performance-based add-ons depending on Mosquera’s Premier League development.
The Spain U21 defender visited Valencia’s Paterna training base on Monday to collect his belongings, skipping preseason training to avoid injury.
“Valencia is my home and always will be,” Mosquera said emotionally from his car as fans gathered to say goodbye.
He added: “I arrived when I was 12, and now I’m leaving as a grown man… It’s exciting, but it’s also sad.”
Speaking to Cadena Cope at the airport the next day, Mosquera said: “Let’s see how it all goes, first it’s the club that has to talk.”
Arsenal’s plan is to integrate Mosquera behind first-choice defenders Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba, while Mikel Arteta views him as a key development prospect.
The Gunners beat interest from top La Liga clubs to secure a player widely regarded as one of Spain’s brightest defensive talents.
