Trent Alexander-Arnold has left Liverpool supporters furious after his seamless Real Madrid debut, where he confidently addressed fans in fluent Spanish.
According to the Express, the England international was unveiled as Real Madrid’s newest player, impressing many with his smooth Spanish delivery at his first press conference.
Earlier this season, reports suggested that Alexander-Arnold was considering a contract extension with Liverpool while also being linked to Real Madrid. His decision to join the Spanish giants has now triggered fresh anger among Reds fans, who believe he had been preparing for this transfer for months by learning Spanish in advance.
Supporters argue that his quick adaptation shows he may never have intended to stay at Anfield. The belief among many is that talks of a Liverpool extension were only a smokescreen.
Speaking at his Real Madrid unveiling, Alexander-Arnold said: “It’s a dream come true. I’m very happy and proud to be here. I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play. I do realise I am signing for Real Madrid, the demands are high. I’m going to give my all for Real Madrid and the fans. I want to win many titles. I want to be a winner here and playing alongside the best players in the world. Hala Madrid.”
Initially expected to join Madrid as a free agent in July, both clubs reached an early agreement to bring Alexander-Arnold to Spain immediately. The deal allowed him to participate in the upcoming Club World Cup, with Liverpool reportedly receiving around £10m.
His fast Spanish adaptation stands in sharp contrast to the experience of Jude Bellingham, who admitted in 2023 that he struggled with the language shortly after his move from Borussia Dortmund. Bellingham shared that he was disappointing then-manager Carlo Ancelotti by not yet mastering Spanish, saying, “I just don’t speak Spanish yet… I’m sorry, but I’m encountering unexpected obstacles with this language.”
Alexander-Arnold’s early preparation seems to have helped him avoid similar challenges in Madrid.
His move, Spanish fluency, and the speed of the transfer have combined to cause a wave of frustration among Liverpool fans, who feel blindsided by the events that unfolded.
