Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has rejected a £100 million offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, reaffirming his commitment to competing at the top level of European football.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Saudi Pro League giants had shown strong interest in the Portuguese midfielder, with reports suggesting United were open to offers for any player this summer. Despite seriously considering the lucrative deal, Fernandes opted to stay at Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the 30-year-old made his stance clear: “I want to play at the highest possible level. I want to play major competitions. I know I still can and I want to be happy doing the thing I love the most.”

His decision will be welcomed by head coach Ruben Amorim, who has frequently praised Fernandes since taking over from Erik ten Hag last November. Amorim, who previously coached Fernandes at Sporting Lisbon, sees him as a cornerstone of his squad rebuild.

Back in April, Amorim said: “We want to win the Premier League again, so we want the best players with us. He’s still so young because he plays 55 games every season. Between assists and goals, he’s there for 30 at least. He’s the type of player we want here, he’s not going anywhere.”

Fernandes’ numbers this season underline his importance. He featured in 57 games, missing only three—two due to suspension—and contributed heavily in both goals and assists. His versatility on the pitch and leadership qualities have helped United through several tough moments this season.

With Manchester United aiming to return to domestic dominance, Amorim is banking on experienced leaders like Fernandes to guide the team forward. The decision to turn down Al-Hilal’s offer suggests that the midfielder values competition over cash and remains deeply committed to his club’s ambitions.

As United navigate a critical summer transfer window, Fernandes staying on signals stability amid uncertainty. At a time when offers from Saudi Arabia are tempting many players, his loyalty may set the tone for others in the dressing room.
