Mutiu Adepoju believes Ademola Lookman is ready for the next big step in his career, urging the forward to consider moving away from Atalanta, IsaGoal can report.
Speaking in an exclusive with Footy-Africa, the former Super Eagles midfielder said Lookman has done enough in Italy and now deserves a bigger challenge in La Liga or the Premier League.
“Lookman has done very well for Atalanta and the national team,” Adepoju said. “If he continues there, it’s fine—but I’d like to see him at a bigger club in La Liga or England. He deserves that.”
The Nigerian winger scored 20 goals and made seven assists across all competitions last season, including a famous Europa League final hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen.
His performances turned heads, and he’s now linked with top clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain.
Adepoju, who played for Real Sociedad during his career, said Lookman’s game has matured and feels he’s outgrown his current environment in Serie A.
“Even with two years left on his contract, I think it’s time,” Adepoju added. “He needs a new adventure—he’s ready for the next level.”
Lookman’s explosive form also earned him a key role in Nigeria’s national team, where he impressed in World Cup qualifiers.
While a stay at Atalanta isn’t off the table, interest from Europe’s elite clubs suggests Lookman may soon be on the move.
