The Flying Eagles are set for a decisive start as they battle Norway in their opening FIFA U20 World Cup game in Chile – www.isagoal.com reports.
Coach Aliyu Zubairu has promised that his boys will not take the first game lightly, stressing that an early victory can set the tone for a deep tournament run.
“We are very much prepared,” Zubairu stated confidently. “The first match is always crucial because it builds belief, lifts the boys’ spirit, and strengthens our focus going forward.”
The coach confirmed that his staff have carefully studied Norway’s style, identifying areas Nigeria must exploit while preparing his squad to adapt during the clash.
“Of course, we know our opponents,” Zubairu explained. “We’ve seen their matches, analysed their strengths and weaknesses, and integrated those lessons into training.”
Nigeria has not reached the U20 World Cup final since 2005, and expectations remain high from fans eager to see the Eagles end that 20-year drought.
Zubairu insists the weight of history will drive, not discourage, his team: “Nobody wants excuses. Success is the standard in Nigeria, and we’ll use that as motivation.”
With Colombia and Saudi Arabia also waiting in Group F, Nigeria’s opening fixture is widely seen as the match that could define their campaign.
“We are going all out for three points,” Zubairu concluded. “Fans should expect nothing less than victory.”
