Barcelona have released a fresh medical update confirming that goalkeeper Joan Garcia will be sidelined for up to six weeks following surgery on his left knee – www.isagoal.com reports.

The injury was picked up during Barcelona’s victory against Real Oviedo, forcing Garcia to undergo a medical procedure at the Hospital de Barcelona.

According to the club’s statement, “Joan García underwent surgery this Saturday on a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. Dr Joan Carles Monllau performed an arthroscopy, and his recovery time will be between four and six weeks, depending on his progress.”

The successful procedure brings relief to the Catalan club, though it means Garcia’s absence will leave a temporary gap in Hansi Flick’s squad.

During this period, experienced goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny will take the role of first choice between the posts.

Barcelona also expect young stopper Diego Kochen to return from United States U-20 duty to provide additional cover.

The focus now turns to Garcia’s recovery timeline, with hopes that he can return fully fit to reinforce the squad as fixtures pile up.
