Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has spoken openly about Christantus Uche, revealing the exact position the Nigerian forward believes suits him best – www.isagoal.com reports.
The 22-year-old only arrived at Selhurst Park on deadline day after sealing a season-long loan deal that comes with an obligation to buy next summer.
Uche’s journey has been anything but ordinary, starting out in Europe as a centre-back before being moved into defensive midfield and later thriving as a striker at Getafe, according to the Guardian.
Glasner explained that Uche’s adaptability across the pitch is valuable, but both player and coach agree his long-term future belongs in one role.
“I think he can play all three attacking positions. I also talked to him, and he feels most comfortable in the number 10 position – and that’s also where we see him,” Glasner told reporters on Friday.
The Austrian tactician added that Uche’s physicality and ability to attack spaces make him perfect for Palace’s setup behind the striker.
He compared the Nigerian to Ismaila, pointing out that both thrive when facing goal rather than being stuck as traditional centre-forwards.
Glasner stressed that patience will be key, saying Uche will be given time to adjust before making his mark in the Premier League.
The Super Eagles star trained with his new teammates on Thursday and could be handed his debut against Sunderland this weekend.
