Atalanta’s Serie A season has started under heavy pressure, but manager Ivan Juric has made a headline-grabbing decision by leaving out Ademola Lookman – www.isagoal.com reports.
Juric admitted during his press conference that despite Lookman being fit, the winger will not feature in the upcoming clash against Lecce.
Speaking to reporters, Juric said bluntly: “Lookman won’t be with us. It’s a truly unpleasant situation. After a meeting with him, I feel we need other things – spirit, fight, humility, work, guys who have to feel the shirt well.”
The Croatian coach doubled down with another fiery remark: “I want a different human level, a different sense of belonging. I have a good relationship with him, but I don’t have to ask him. Damn, we’re Atalanta, I don’t have to beg him. He needs strong, human values.”
Lookman’s frustration stems from his desire to leave during the summer transfer window, when Inter Milan made an offer that Atalanta rejected.
The Nigerian international even refused to train at one stage, hoping to force a move away, but no agreement was ever reached.
As the weeks dragged on and other bids fell apart, Lookman remained with the Bergamo club against his wishes.
Juric has now underlined that while the winger is still under contract, his long-term future at Atalanta is far from guaranteed.
