MTN Nigeria has urged football fans to put more energy into the Nigeria Premier Football League rather than giving all the attention to European competitions — www.isagoal.com reports.
The telecoms company made this call during an English Premier League viewing party in Lekki, Lagos, while fans gathered to watch Liverpool face Arsenal.
According to This Day, the event was not just about foreign football but also a reminder of MTN’s commitment to investing in the local game.
Senior Manager of Sales and Distribution, Ekundayo Fatoki, explained that football remains one of the biggest unifying forces in Nigeria.
“Football brings Nigerians together, and we want to connect with our people through that passion,” Fatoki said.
He added that fans need to show the same love for NPFL that they already show to European clubs.
Fatoki stressed that growing the local league depends on Nigerians promoting and celebrating it at every opportunity.
MTN is already a key sponsor of the Nigeria Football Federation, and the company says it is determined to channel more resources into the domestic league.
Fatoki also admitted to supporting Chelsea, tipping them as favorites to finish top of the Premier League this season after their emphatic 5-1 win against West Ham.
