Iheanacho Gets Iconic No.17 Jersey at Celtic After Transfer

Kelechi Iheanacho joins Celtic on a one-year deal and takes over a shirt number once made famous by Ian Wright, creating a buzz among supporters

Kelechi Iheanacho has been officially handed Celtic’s number 17 shirt after sealing his move to the Scottish Premiership champions—www.isagoal.com reports.

The Nigeria striker agreed to a one-year deal with the Hoops, with the option to extend for two more seasons depending on performance.

Allnigeriasoccer.com confirmed the transfer was finalized just after the summer window closed.

Iheanacho steps into a jersey that once carried the name of Arsenal legend Ian Wright during the 1999–2000 campaign.

The shirt became free earlier this summer when Maik Nawrocki secured a loan move to Hannover 96 in Germany.

“Wearing number 17 at Celtic comes with history and pride,” a club insider shared after the deal.

Other players who previously wore the same number include Jota, Ryan Christie, Didier Agathé, Marc Crosas, and Morten Wieghorst.

Iheanacho’s shirt history has varied, starting at Manchester City with number 72 before taking number 8 at Leicester, then switching to number 14 for five straight seasons.

At Sevilla, he played with the number 9 shirt but struggled for minutes, later wearing the same number during a loan stint at Middlesbrough.

Celtic completed registration in time for him to be available for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
