Nwakali Camp Denies Barnsley Exit, Loan Move Likely

Kelechi Nwakali’s camp insists the midfielder remains under contract at Barnsley and is instead pushing for a loan move as rumors swirl

Kelechi Nwakali’s representatives have dismissed reports that the Nigerian midfielder has been released by Barnsley, stressing he remains a player of the club — www.isagoal.com reports.

According to AllNigeriaSoccer, his elder brother Allwell Nwakali confirmed the 27-year-old is under contract and is working on a possible loan switch before the transfer window closes.

Allwell described the sack reports as false and hinted at legal action, saying, “My lawyer will write to Mohammed Sulaiman for defamation. It’s time I sue that website and ensure he pays damages.”

The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner signed a three-year deal with Barnsley last summer, running until 2027.

Despite being one of Barnsley’s standout players last season, he has not featured this campaign, missing fixtures against Plymouth, Burton, Fleetwood, Bolton, and Peterborough.

Allwell explained the midfielder wants regular football, noting, “Barnsley want him to stay, but he has requested a loan move to a club where he can be playing week in, week out.”

Several clubs in England and abroad are monitoring his situation, with a final decision expected in the coming days.

Nwakali made 26 appearances last season, scoring once in December, a goal that won Barnsley’s Goal of the Month award.
