Victor Boniface’s role at Bayer Leverkusen has come under fresh scrutiny, with reports in Germany claiming Erik ten Hag now ranks him behind Patrik Schick and new signing Christian Michel Kofane – www.isagoal.com reports.
According to Bild, the Super Eagles striker was left on the bench during Leverkusen’s 4-0 DFB Pokal win over Grossaspach, with Ten Hag preferring Kofane, who scored and assisted on his debut.
Boniface, 24, has built a strong reputation since joining from Union SG, recording 32 goals and 13 assists in 61 appearances for Die Werkself.
He initially flourished under Xabi Alonso, keeping his place even after Schick’s recovery, but recurring injuries disrupted his momentum and cost him consistency.
Ten Hag later explained that Boniface’s reduced minutes were due to “lack of match fitness,” though doubts remain about his long-term role.
With AFCON 2025 approaching, regular game time could prove decisive for his Super Eagles future.
