Man City Ranks Iheanacho Among African Stars in Club History

Manchester City’s recent video tribute stirs buzz as Kelechi Iheanacho lands among their five most notable African names in Premier League action

Manchester City has included Kelechi Iheanacho in its list of the five most influential African players to represent the club in the Premier League – www.isagoal.com reports.

The recognition came via a video released across City’s verified social media channels, highlighting players with the most league appearances from Africa.

Iheanacho was placed fourth behind Yaya Touré, Riyad Mahrez, and Kolo Touré, while Wilfred Bony rounded out the top five.

Iheanacho featured in 46 league matches during his stay at the Etihad, finding the net 12 times over two seasons.

He broke into City’s senior squad during the 2015–16 season under manager Manuel Pellegrini, scoring in matches against teams like Crystal Palace, Swansea, and Tottenham.

The following campaign, Pep Guardiola gave him minutes, and he added goals against Manchester United, Hull City, and Bournemouth to his tally.

Southampton stood out as his preferred opponent, with three goals across multiple fixtures.

Overall, Iheanacho appeared 64 times across all competitions for City, scoring 21 goals and assisting seven others.

His trophy cabinet at the club includes the 2016 EFL Cup before his transfer to Leicester City in 2017.

At Leicester, he claimed the FA Cup and Community Shield, later helping them secure promotion in 2024 by winning the Championship title.

Iheanacho moved to Sevilla after leaving the Foxes at the end of that season, closing a seven-year chapter in England.

As City’s tribute showed, the Nigerian striker remains a memorable part of the club’s Premier League journey.

“To be among names like Mahrez and Yaya Touré is a huge honour,” Iheanacho once said about his early years at the Etihad.
