Mexican Move on Hold as Iheanacho’s Future Still Unclear

Kelechi Iheanacho faces fresh transfer speculation as reports link him with Mexico’s Pumas UNAM but the truth behind the claims may surprise fans

Reports have linked Kelechi Iheanacho with a move to Mexican club Pumas UNAM, but the situation appears more complicated than it seems, Isagoal can report.

According to report, there have been no concrete discussions or negotiations between Iheanacho and the Liga MX side, despite reports circulating in several outlets.

The forward, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer, has struggled to settle into Spanish football over the past year.

After a quiet first half of the season, Sevilla sent him out on loan to Middlesbrough where he scored once and assisted another in 15 Championship appearances.

Now back at Sevilla and preparing for the new season under recently appointed coach Matías Almeyda, Iheanacho’s future remains uncertain.

Africafoot sources have dismissed the latest transfer rumours, confirming that no official approach has been made by Pumas UNAM for the Nigerian international.

While Pumas are said to be monitoring him, the club has yet to put forward any formal bid or initiate direct talks with the player or his representatives.

Iheanacho, who turns 29 in October, is under pressure to secure more playing time to stay in contention for Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 squad later this year.

With attacking competition heating up in the Super Eagles camp, any drop in club minutes could cost him a national team call-up.

Though a move to Mexico might offer more game time, there’s currently no real progress on that front, and Iheanacho remains with Sevilla for now.
