Three-time Champions League winners in Talks to Sign Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali

Ike Shorunmu backs Stanley Nwabali amid Raja Casablanca links, calling the move a possible springboard for the Super Eagles star’s career

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has urged Stanley Nwabali to consider his career ambitions carefully as he weighs a move to Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.

Speaking to Footy Africa, the ex-Nigeria and Beşiktaş shot-stopper said the final decision lies with Nwabali, but added that a move to Morocco could be a solid platform for greater opportunities.

“Ultimately, it’s up to Stanley to decide what he wants from his life and football career,” Shorunmu said. “He’s a fantastic goalkeeper with the quality to succeed anywhere.”

The 29-year-old has been a revelation for Nigeria since his breakout performances at the 2023 AFCON, where he was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ run to the final.

Currently with Chippa United in the South African Premier League, Nwabali has attracted interest from clubs including QPR, Al Ettifaq, and now Raja Casablanca.

According to Unplayable, the Moroccan side—three-time CAF Champions League winners—are pushing hard to sign the Nigerian as part of a squad rebuild aimed at continental dominance.

Shorunmu believes the proposed switch could serve as a stepping stone:
“It’s a new environment, different from what he’s used to in South Africa. The club clearly believes in him, and it’s up to Stanley to prove himself again.”

With a market value of €650,000 per Transfermarkt, Chippa United are open to selling if the price is right.

Nwabali is yet to make a public comment, but with Maduka Okoye also eyeing the Super Eagles’ No.1 shirt, consistent club minutes could prove vital in the months ahead.
