Jordan Henderson has officially ended his stint with Ajax after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract a year ahead of schedule, IsaGoal can report.
The former Liverpool captain joined Ajax in January 2024 following a short and controversial spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.
He went on to make 50 appearances for the Eredivisie giants, contributing during a tense title race that ultimately saw Ajax fall short to PSV Eindhoven despite leading the league with five games to go.
Ajax confirmed: “The Englishman’s contract with Ajax ran until June 30, 2026, but now ends immediately.”
In his farewell statement, Henderson reflected: “To play for this club was an honour in itself. To have the privilege of captaining it was even more so.” He added: “We didn’t deliver more success for the amazing supporters, and that’s my only regret.”
He also addressed the recent loss of his friend and ex-teammate Diogo Jota: “Due to the tragic events of last week and the devastating loss… it doesn’t feel right at this moment to say or do more.”
Henderson leaves behind a strong legacy from his Liverpool days, having won the Premier League, Champions League, and multiple domestic titles.
His next destination remains unknown, but at 34, the experienced midfielder may still have one more chapter to write.
