Eyewitness Denies Diogo Jota Was Speeding Before Crash

A witness has come forward to challenge speeding claims in Diogo Jota's tragic car crash, revealing chilling details of the moments before the fatal impact

A witness has disputed claims that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was speeding when he died in a devastating car crash in Spain, IsaGoal can report,

The Portugal international and his brother, André Silva, tragically passed away when their Lamborghini veered off a dark stretch of motorway near Zamora and caught fire.

Spanish Civil Guard officials initially stated that early evidence pointed to Jota exceeding the speed limit and being the driver at the time of the accident.

Their report remains incomplete and is expected to be submitted to a court in Puebla de Sanabria.

However, truck driver José Azevedo, who was on the same road and witnessed the scene, has refuted the speeding claims.

“They passed me completely calmly and were not speeding. You have my word they weren’t speeding,” Azevedo said in a video posted on social media. “I tried to help but due to the impact of the accident, there was nothing I could do.”

He described the road as “terrible” and “dark,” emphasizing how challenging the conditions were.

“I offer my sincere condolences. I have a clear conscience—I know what I saw,” Azevedo added.

Jota was reportedly heading to Santander to catch a ferry back to the UK for pre-season training.

The 28-year-old had married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, just 11 days earlier.

His funeral was held in Gondomar and attended by teammates, coaches, and grieving fans from across the football world.
