Preston near deal for Nigeria-eligible Odel Offiah

Preston North End are closing in on Brighton's Odel Offiah, a former Nigeria U17 prospect, in what could be a key signing for their Championship push

Brighton defender Odel Offiah is nearing a move to Preston North End, with talks reportedly at an advanced stage, IsaGoal can report.

According to the South London Press, the 22-year-old could be set for a permanent switch after spending last season on loan at Blackpool.

Offiah, born in London, remains eligible for Nigeria and once trained with the Golden Eaglets before the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup.

Though he didn’t make the final squad for Brazil, his interest in representing Nigeria at senior level has not faded.

Offiah made his Premier League debut for Brighton in April 2024 against Bournemouth.

Known for his versatility, he can cover all positions across the backline and fits well into Preston’s tactical setup.

Charlton Athletic were also interested, especially after earning promotion to the Championship.

But with just a year left on his contract, Offiah looks set to choose Preston instead.

Preston are moving quickly to replace academy product Kian Best, who recently joined Chelsea on a free transfer.

During his loan at Blackpool, Offiah was a regular starter and helped them to a respectable ninth-place finish in League One.

He played in 42 games across all competitions, contributing a goal and an assist while solidifying his reputation as a dependable defender.

With this potential signing, Preston aim to boost their backline ahead of the upcoming Championship season.
