Liverpool star Diogo Jota has sadly passed away in a tragic car accident in Spain, IsaGoal can report, sending shockwaves across the football world and leaving fans in mourning.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the 28-year-old Portuguese forward was travelling with his brother Andre near Sanabria in the Zamora region when their car veered off the road and caught fire.
Emergency services confirmed that both men died at the scene.
“The vehicle was on fire when emergency responders arrived,” authorities in Castilla y León confirmed in a statement, revealing the crash happened on Km. 65 of the A-52 in Cernadilla, Zamora.
Jota was enjoying his summer break following a phenomenal season with Liverpool, during which he helped the club lift the Premier League title under new manager Arne Slot.
His success extended to the international stage too, recently winning the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
The tragedy comes just days after Jota married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso in a beautiful ceremony in Porto on June 22.
The couple shared a heartfelt post on social media, writing: “June 22, 2025. Yes to forever.”
Jota, who previously starred at Wolves, joined Liverpool in 2020 for £45 million and quickly became a fan favourite.
He scored consistently across all competitions and made 120 appearances for the Reds, known for his versatility, pressing, and sharp eye for goal.
Jota’s sudden death leaves a massive void not only at Liverpool but across the entire footballing community.
